Data theft or data is encrypted for money in ransomware attack. Till the money is not received, that data is kept encrypt. However, there is no guarantee that the encryption on the data will be removed after getting the money. Many such cases have been reported in the last few years.

To avoid ransomware attack, it is advisable to continuously update the operating system, software and firmware. Along with this, it is asked to use multi-factor authentication for all services like email.
